I think the 2015 version removes this distinct statement about auditing your own work and replaces it with something more vague, which for once might work in our favor!
I am in a similar situation, with only 15 people on staff. The spirit of the statement is that objectivity is maintained, but the letter of the statement can be impossible to follow. I have one lead auditor, and I am the audit coordinator. We end up "trading off" on each other's areas during audits, but it's crazy, because we both assist each other when the going gets tough and everything is due yesterday. In a small shop, everything is everyone's responsibility. I'm not looking forward to assigning process owners in ISO 2015 for this reason.
