Do Quality Objectives have to be Measurable?

Well, I understand that it is a pure ISO forum, so I am sorry if I should not have walked in here. Alert alert there is an enemy in the iso-camp :truce:

I am not making things up here, just to be irritating, I am trying help, to give people something to think about.
There is nothing wrong with providing different perspectives on a subject and we all benefit from that. Like you, I do believe in the existence of life beyond ISO 9001 :tg:

However, if you pay close attention to the context and location of this thread, you should observe that we are supposed to be discussing topics from an ISO 9000, 9001 and 9004 perspective.

So, maybe in the future, it would be easier to say something like: "... While ISO 9001 might require a quality objective to be measurable, in my opinion, it is much more important for an objective to be actionable...." so, nobody misinterprets what you are saying or might be misled...

Welcome to the forum. I don't see you as an enemy. Perhaps you should have noted that outside of ISO having measurable objectives may not always be desireable.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by both ways. If you mean to ask what do I think about quality objectives that are not measurable, then I would have to say that I don't much care for them on a personal level.

Although I have a couple of business degrees, I also have a technical background. As a result I never much cared for objectives that were not measurable. But that doesn't keep me from listening to another opinion.

thanks sidney! but I would like to add on to you that as per the auditing skills and requirements your objectives shall be considered appropriate if it is as per SMART i.e. your objectives should be S = specific
M = measurable
A = ambitious
R = realistic &
T = time bound

Ahhhhh, thank you for making your outlook known. Your post makes sense now that your perspective and intent are more clear.

Outside of ISO which requires measurement, I would have to agree that "percieved quality" which need not be measured may also have other impacts...one that comes to mind immediately is employee morale.

All the same, I would love to see a list of "unmeasureables" or items that have value to a company but no value to be measured. Even the empoyee morale from "perceived quality" is measured. It doesn't NEED to be, but there is value in the measurement.
