Do you think I’m capable of performing a ISO/TS 16949:2002 audit

Hi all!

I’m an auditor for a large registrar organization.
I’ve made lots of audits.
However for my registrar I only have made audits to ISO 9001:2000.
As a trainer I’ve made several training actions about ISO/TS 16949:2002, including internal auditors for this TS.
I have made internal audits based in these training actions in the organizations I made the training.
As a trainer made lots of training actions about some QS-9000 manual such as MSA, FMEA and SPC, and of course about QMS requirements.
Do you think I’m capable of performing a ISO/TS 16949:2002 audit to any organization as a lead auditor?:(

Antonio,
Whether we think you can or not is irrelevant.
The IATF rules only allow someone who has passed their qualification route to 3rd part audit.
I sympathise with you but thats the rules

Howard's right. This includes 6 of the last 10 years experience in an automotive organization. The requirements are spelled out in the "Rules for achieving IATF recognition - 2nd edition."

Thanks Howard!
Thanks Howste!

The question was not very well stated by me.
The kind of audit I need to do is not a 3rd party audit.
It will be an internal audit. The only difference is that the audit is made by me, and I don’t belong to the auditee organization, but anyway it’s an internal audit. Even considering that the audit is going to be promoted by a third organization.
It’s more or less like this:
An organization needs an internal audit and asks a consultant if he knows someone to perform it. That consultant pointed my name.
I think this kind of audits AITF has nothing to be against a guy like me doing it...
In fact I worked, as a Quality Manager for more than 8 years in a large plant in the automotive industry...:D

Thanks

It depends. If the organization you would be performing internal audits for has Ford as a customer, you might not qualify, because Ford has specific requirements about the qualifications of internal auditors. See http://www.iaob.org/forms/FordspecTS2nd.pdf

4.39 Internal Quality Audits (ISO/TS 16949:2002 cl. 8.2.2) The internal audits shall review all the organization's identified process (per 4.1a of ISO/TS 16949:2002). This review shall be conducted at least annually.

Internal Auditor Qualifications Internal quality management system auditors shall be qualified per 4.39.1 or 4.39.2 below.

4.39.1 Be trained and evaluated in the following areas:
• The Technical Specification ISO/TS 16949:2002
• Related core tools (e.g. APQP, SPC, MSA, FMEA, PPAP)
• Applicable customer-specific requirements, and

• The automotive process approach to auditing. And, as part of the training, participates in practice sessions equivalent to one audit day in:

• Case study audits, and/or

• Auditing role plays/simulations, and/or

On-site audits. Core tools and customer specifics can be taught by company or industry recognized experts/specialists.

4.39.2
Or, have conducted at least 5 internal ISO/TS 16949:2002 internal audits during the prior 24 months under the supervision of an auditor trained as specified in 4.39.1 . The audits will need to have covered all requirements of the technical specification and all processes directly

Visteon requires one person to have completed an Accredited ISO/TS16949:2002 course. When I took the course in Nov. 2004 it was RAB Accredited and you had to pass a final exam.

You may qualify as an internal lead auditor if there are no customer specific requirements which specify criteria. I think you have the knowledge and experience.

That’s funny, some years ago I taught at Visteon here some training actions about ISO 9001 auditing.
After that I did the same for QS-9000 at the same factory. In this case in fact it was only lessons about the standard and QSA.
