Friends,
I have seen many software programs for
FMEA: Excel, Access, "home-grown" programs based on Access, commercially available packages, etc. They can all be of great help to
manage and
control the FMEA information. However, they can never be a substitute for the creative/discovery/analysis process that FMEA requires. Many times, these FMEA packages are purchased in the hope that they will do all the "hard FMEA thinking work." That, my friends, is not the case. A poorly defined FMEA process can not be fixed and improved with software. To quote Dr. W. Edwards Deming: "There's no instant pudding."
