Documentation Required by IATF 16949 (Automotive QMS)

I have a question about implementation part, have identified organization issues, interested parties, their requirements, developed risk analysis for every process. Now I am stuck up what to do next. Can anyone help on macro level structure of IATF 16949. We are already ISo/ TS certified company, preparing for IATF 16949
Then comes following:
1. Vision, Mission Statement (Optional)
2. Quality Objectives, Process effectiveness and efficiency measures
3. Documented processes
4. Quality manual,
etc.

As you are already certified to ISO/TS 16949, you'll have to only prepare documented processes and revise Quality manual. And you have to comply with additional requirements of IATF 16949, as you might be aware of the changes.

Thanks,
Amit

I have attached the form that our CB sent showing the IATF required documented processes.

They also stated the these processes must:
  • Be Documented
  • Have inputs and outputs
  • Be measured for effectiveness
They also stated that the IAOB has taken position that failure to do the items above, should result in a major nonconformance.

Be documented:
You have to documents what activities are involved in the process to describe process. This can be in the form of Procedure / Turtle chart.

Have Inputs and Outputs:
Define what input is required in order to perform the activities involved in the process and what output you get after the activity is completed. You can use Turtle charts to show Inputs and Output Or add Input and Output in your procedure.
I prefer Turtle charts.

Be measured for effectiveness
Although not mandatory as per IATF16949, you should have minimum two measures for every process i.e. For Effectiveness and efficiency monitoring.

You can refer following thread to get guidance on Effectiveness Vs Efficiency measures:
Process Efficiency vs. Process Effectiveness for TS 16949

Attached a sample turtle chart for your reference which complies with all of these three requirements.

I hope this helps.

Thanks,
Amit

According to statistics from my software "Mad 33 1/3 Party Auditor" , we are required to have 18 documented processes, previously know as so called "documented procedures":
4.4.1.2
7.1.5.2.1
7.2.1
7.2.3
7.3.2
7.5.3.2.2
8.3.6.1
8.4.1.2
8.4.2.1
8.5.6.1
8.7.1.4
8.7.1.5
8.7.1.7
9.2.2.1
10.2.3
10.2.4
10.3.1
It seems to me that this list should include:
8.5.6.1.1
8.3.3.3
8.3.4.4
8.4.2.2

And I would exclude 8.3.6.1 as I do not read anything about a documented process in the standard.

Updated list (as I see it):
4.4.1.2
7.1.5.2.1
7.2.1
7.2.3
7.3.2
7.5.3.2.2
8.3.3.3
8.3.4.4
8.4.1.2
8.4.2.1
8.4.2.2
8.4.2.4
8.5.6.1
8.5.6.1.1
8.7.1.4
8.7.1.5
8.7.1.7
9.2.2.1
10.2.3
10.2.4
10.3.1

It seems that I had some problems in proper numbering sections.
8.3.6.1 should be in fact 8.5.6.1
8.3.3.3 and other sections you had mentioned were also in my original post as so called "undocumented" processes.

Re: IATF 16949 Required documentation

Hi, it is really a big change from documented procedure to documented process.

A process may be documented by a process identity card, flow chart, turtle diagram, with risk analysis.

elements of a process e.g. input, output, customer, supplier, with whom, with what, how, measurement, process owner, and associated risk analysis must be defined.
You will have to keep this in mind, when you refer to something as a 'Process' you are subjected to the eight mandatory rules that are required with this 'Process.' (4.4.1)
Using a Turtle Diagram would satisfy this requirement.

Hello,

I have been discussing the item about required documented process with several people, but consensus on the topic seems a though case.

What do you people understand in:

Shall have a documented process(es)
Shall document a/its process
Shall maintain a documented process

I counted 21 times documented process excluding documented system/policy.

Tx,
