Our organization is currently ISO 9001, upgrading to TS 16949.
i remember our TS consultant telling me that we would need to create matrix that lists all of our quality records, location, access contra, retention, and disposition. We currently address these requirements throughout our individual procedures and work instructions. Is a single document listing all the records really required? If so, where is this stated in the TS standard?
The standard ISO 9001 requires a documented procedures for records mgmt, ISO TS has an additional requirement for the record mgmt that shall fulfill the cogent requirements as well as the ones of the customer ( see clause 4.4.1. of ISO TS 16949).
Said that, how to comply is up to the organization. You can use the matrix of not, it is up to you and is not a "shall".
Given that you are already ISO 9001 certified , it is ok if you only work to comply to 4.2.4.1 and put in place activities and resources ( with associated responsility) for that purpose.
My idea is that your TS consultant provided a method with the matrix, but, I repeat, it is not a requirement.
The suggestion could be to review the documented procedure for record control so that you shall ensure that the activities that you have in place are still in conformity in conjuction with the new technical standard you are going to pursue to.
Hope this helps
