Does Management Review need to be a Formal Meeting?

Can you list the specifics of the nonconformity? There is no requirement in ISO 9001 to have a meeting, so they must have written it against something else.

Actually since I stated that we did not formally sit down to review our system, but instead I met with each party, gathered the data that would be reviewed and action items that are to be taken... this was not counted as a "meeting". We did not comply with the requirement because we did not all "meet"....

So, my advice - get everyone together in the same room, teleconference, or webcast.. just to be safe...

C'mon guys, you know that it's not a real management review unless those folks spend at least 10 hours together, locked up in a room, him-haw around, have lunch and make about 3 bathroom breaks each.;)

In fact, there are "some" outfits that go about the process exactly like Randy describes.

In my opinion (not backed by citation to a Standard), Stijloor and Jane B. have pointed out the most obvious requirements of Management Review -

  1. the decisions made and communicated to the organization are the highest priority of management review (there should be a record of this activity and action or non-action on each item)
  2. ALL managers do not have to be involved in the review of every item, nor do they have to confer or agree on every item
  3. The REVIEW is the requirement, not a MEETING

I have a question not regarding Management review but about follow up of the meeting.
as per our system we perform Management reviews every four months.
However, follow up is the weak area since no body respond to it. I used Ms. Outlook tasks, emails, one to one meetings etc but nothing worked.
In the review meeting I have been the real scapegoat since everybody has some job to do except MR. :( he just waste time.
What's the solution.

As Howste said, I'd appeal it. There just is no requirement to 'meet'. Read the relevant clause and sub-clauses again - it is not there. :mad:

So unless your documented system stipulates a meeting, there's no nonconformity.

Jeepers, now if only the same diligent effort was put into a focus on the effectiveness of management planning and review as opposed to corralling people into a meeting when it may not be the best way!
