Does NIST Certify Calibration Laboratories?

Hello All,
Been out of touch due to layoff. Recently began working with medical company assisting with calibration. While reading their procedures I found mention of NIST Vendor Certification. The paragraph basically mentioned that vendors with this certification may submit calibration certs with some the required information allowed to be missing.

My only question is "Does NIST certify vendors or cal labs"? I thought that accreditation came from other labs and NIST does not do this practice.

Maybe I am wrong or maybe there have been some changes while I was vacationing.

NIST doesn't "accredit" (not certify) labs. The closest accreditation body to NIST would be ACLASS who are part of ANSI.

The requirement may be reference to NVLAP, a part of NIST.

Thanks for the speedy replies. Accreditation or Certification. I was pretty sure that NIST wasn't doing either. I need to correct our documentation regarding this error.

NIST does not certify or accredit calibration labs. Their subsidiary organization, NVLAP, does accredit calibration labs.
