Does plant personnel need to be re-trained to the new ISO 9001:2008 revision??

Please provide your input to the following question it will be appreciated:
Do personnel need to be re-trained to the new ISO 9001:2008 standard? My company has been ISO 9k2k for 6 years and all our employees have been trained to the previous ISO 9k2k standard. We have an assessment audit coming up this year and will be audited to the ISO 9001: 2008 revision of the standard and want to be prepared. Comments? Thanks.

I would at least make sure that they receive at least some documented "overview of iso 9000:2008" training or similar, whether it be handouts, PowerPoint presentation, etc.

Have there been any new or revised procedures written to comply with the 2008 version?

No changes or new procedures, only minor word changes as stated by the new ISO 9001: 2008. The structure of the standard is the same no new reqs have been added. Only some word clarifications in some of the reqs.

Don't waste your, or their, time!

We've endlessly debated the amendments here and whether even quality professionals need any 'training'. It's not, is the consensus....

I don't know why anyone else would even need to know about ISO. They don't need anything technical about it. You won't get any benefit from the work you'd put in to make slides etc.

I would have to agree. If there aren't any procedural changes, I wouldn't see why additional training would be necessary.

Although, a lttle bit of CYA never hurt:rolleyes:

I formally trained my internal auditors line by line on the changes and gave the execs a summary.

Otherwise I just told everyone that the new rev was out if they are affected it will be pointed out during the next round of internal audits.

Actually, to be accurate, the answer should be a question:
"What does your process for 'competency, awareness and training say?"

Do you people have to be competent in the ISO standard (I hope not), do they need to be aware of the ISO requirements? Have you competency criteria that state knowledge and awareness of ISO 9001 requirements are required and they can't demonstrate that, then they need training!

Often, our own management systems should be used to answer our own questions about these issues, rather than endlessly debate 'opinion' or prepare for (the eventuality that) an auditor will ask that question...........

More to the point, perhaps is did you bring up the revision at Management Review for discussion under 'Changes that affect the QMS'?

Andy - I was referring to the whole internal communication deal. Maybe I'm just NADCAP weary (different auditors, different interpretations):frust:
