OK, look. I'm sorry the child got sick. I have two small children so I can sympathize with how frightened the parents were and the manufacturer certianly should not have used whatever chemical they did use...
HOWEVER some things not brough up in the article...

1) Why did a 13 month old have access to this toy?
2) Who was supervising this child? She ate 40 pieces, not one or two.

"She's got an angel watching over her, that's for sure, " her mother said.
That's good because apparently the parents are not.

Another case in Florida the child was 20 months old.

The boxes I've seen say 4+.

I do have some information regarding this recall.

The current theory being tested is that China changed the chemical formulation of the surface of the dots AFTER approval of the original formulation.

At least in Canada, they were tested to determine if there were any risks in it was inadvertently ingested. The results were that the formulation tested was approved.

For Scott's point, having a small child myself (2.5 yrs old) - they are quick and even if you are watching them it is scary how fast they can get into trouble! However, to have them eat 40 of them is unbelievable!

I will update if I find out any more about this.

Not that I'm mean or cruel (yeah, right) but are kids today a bit on the duh side?

We (my five brothers and sisters) grew up in the 50's and 60's as did our friends and I can't recall anyone eating "stuff" or choking on "stuff" or getting sick from "stuff".

well - in this particular case I can see where a toddler would think that they're candy.

Randy,

I am sure you have noticed, but, many regulations related to children is due to the fact that somewhere along the passage of time parents stopped being parents!!:mad::mad:

Being a parent to a small child, I get incensed when I watch parents have little to no time for their children. Even worse, they just give the child whatever they what so they don't have to deal with them crying.:mad::mad:

:soap:

Add this to the 1-2% of really curious (stupid?) kids, and we are where we are!

:)

Let's see.............

Dad had loaded guns in the house, but I never played with them

The folks had booze in the house, but I never drank it

We had poison and stuff in the cabinets and under the sink and I never drank it.

I never played with matches.

I had small toys, pointed toys, sharp toys and painted toys and other than when I was a baby I can't remember eating them cause they looked like candy or whatever.

And neither did my siblings....................

The last time I was physically disciplined by dad was 1956. Mom and dad were pretty absent because both worked (dad always had 2 jobs in the 50's and 60's) and we really raised ourselves. They weren't the best, but they weren't the worst either. So parents "teaching", I dunno.

Hey Randy,

I was in the same situation, plenty of guns in the house but never touched them unless Dad was there and he handed it to me.

Maybe the real problem is that there is some truth to the idea that the world only has a finite amount of common sense available to each person at birth. As the population grows the amount of common sense available to newborns becomes smaller. Of course, it seems that some people missed out on their allotment altogether.

You know, you might be on to something there.

You will however, get into trouble with the PC crowd if you say that too much.

When I was growing up, the kids that did these things were removed from the gene pool.
