Drawings from Client - ISO 9001:2008 Clause 4.2.3 or 7.5.4?

Q

QAMTY

Hi all
Please share your point of view.

In ISO 9001 2008, under 4.2.3 (external documents) and 7.5.4 customer property.

Where do drawings received form client for designs, fit better for the control, considering them as external documents, or have them controlled in customer property? see next, NOTE Customer property can include intellectual property and personal data.
The autocad drawings in some way, they are intellectual property.

Drawings we received, need control because, we manage several revisions
according to client´s needs.

please advise

Thanks

I'd go with 4.2.3. 7.5.4 is oriented more with stuff the customer still owns, and is likely to expect back in some form at some point in the future.

Why would they have to fit in only one of the sections in the 9001 standard? They certainly relate to both.

They are obviously a document of external origin, but they are also customer property, especially the IP content. If you received an illegible drawing from a customer, wouldn't you report that back to them? That "requirement" is not in section 4.2.3, but in 7.5.4.

Remember, your quality system does not need to follow the 9001 standard verbatim in order to comply with it.

Additionally the customer information, specifications, drawing etc. also forms an input to 7.1.
