Re: E. coli O104 (STEC O104:H4) & CDC

Today the RKI announced the end of the EHEC O104:H4 outbreak. In the last 3 weeks no new infections were reported (for details see RKI press release 26.07.2011, afaik only available in German).

All in all 4321 patients got an O104:H4 infection (3469 EHEC, 852 HUS) and 50 people died in Germany. In Europe 76 EHEC-infections were reported with 1 dead patient and 49 HUS-patients.

The (most likely) root cause for the outbreak were fenugreek seeds which were imported from Egypt.

So finally it's over :)

Barbara

Thanks Barbara.
That is good news, the end.
Never heard of fenugreek. I just learn something new.

All the best,
