ECR to ECO to ECN Procedure and numbering system

I have been in Document Control for over 10 years and I am taking on a new position as such with a strong emphasis of Engineering Changes (any or all changes). In this new position I will set up the system and forms to be used. What are your opinions on combining these 3 steps to a minimum of too forms or better yet one form. As such we could have the ECR and ECN carry the same number (such as ECR/ECN 1076). What are your thoughts on that. Thanks!

Welcome to The Cove, Jim!

That's how we do it at our company. We have an ECR/N form that serves as both the initial Request and the Notice when completed.

That to me seems the best way to do it. So does it keep the same number regardless of it being an ECR or and ECN?

Ours do, since it's the same form. It also eliminates any confusion as to what ECR generated what ECN. It works well for us.

Hi friends. Care to share the ECR/ECN combine form? I am currently setting up a engineering change procedure and this would definitely help. Thanks in advanced!
