My company is an auto ancillary co.

My customers (OEM's) target is reduction in CO2 emission. Our product will be playing as vital role in achieving the goal (environmental) of the OEM.

Can we also call it a programme of our company though it has come as a customer requirement?

Hope I could communicate what I mean.

Re: EMS programme

Good day Rajendrak,

Reduction in CO2 emission is a goal, whether self-imposed or externally defined by regulators, customers or other stakeholders. The program is the set of defined policies, procedures and activities involved to achieve, record and report performance against the goal(s).

Please see related threads such as Environmental Objective, Target, and Performance Indicator - Differences? for more information.

Also please see related threads linked at the bottom of this page and others that you open up while reading through what's already been discussed. There is quite a lot of information here already - no need to wait for replies when you can browse the many threads and look at attachments via the green Post Attachments List button in the header.

I hope this helps!

Nope, not if it's a requirement that you do so. What your customer "requires" is under 4.3.2 as an "other requirement"

Environmental objectives are defined as an environmental goal the organization "sets for itself" that phrase alone clearly says that organizations have to establish their own objectives and that's simply because the organization has to have the freedon or latitude to change if change is necessary and if the organization is "required" to do something then that requirement becomes an unchangable mandate just like being "required" to comply with the law.

Dear Rajendra,

If it is a customer requirement, you have to meet it to remain in business.

If you are asking this question in the context of ISO-14001, the environmental policy requires your commitment to comply with "other requirements" - your customer requirement is one such requirements.

As Randy points out, in the context of ISO-14001, you need to identify this requirement under 4.3.2., and proceed to comply with this requirement, as you do for the identified legal requirements.

In my opinion, nothing bars you from having a programme on efficiency improvement of your products, irrespective of what your customer's immediate requirement is. You may define such requirements (aspect of your product) as Significant aspects under 4.3.1. of your EMS and proceed to have your objectives, targets and programmes to reduce CO2 emission of your products as per established procedures (4.3.3).

With kind regards,

Ramakrishnan

Can I understand better why a customer requirement cannot be made as a company EMS program, implement the same and meet the customer requirement ... ? In the case of the OP, is the customer requirement well defined ? Why not the OP's EMS program take this requirement and set targets to achieve it as the organization's own objective ?

Dear Somashekar,

The last paragraph of my earlier answer that you quote answers your question. There is no BAR on setting objectives, targets and programmes as far as you follow the procedure you set out in your EMS.

With kind regards,

Ramakrishnan
