suppose - developed a tool. the user can operate the same within some stipulated time (there must be stipulation while development). but it is taking more the time specified (considerable time extra taking). thus it is a usage of more electricity and other facilities. So a software developer should take care of the same to prevent unncessary use of unrenewable resources.
I do not know whether I am correct or not.
When you just see the scope of your question it is determination of aspects and impacts in the software development. So it is identification first.
Just look at it as a group of people sitting with a system each and working in a defined area (software or PC games or e-mail or chat or downloading or whatever) which may also have within a small restroom, cafeteria as you have it and are visualizing.
While the output is stated by you which is software development, see and list the various inputs that are used, power, water, paper, battery, printing cartridges, storage devices, what else .... see all and list all. Aspects.
Due to the use of all these that you see and list, what are the things depleted, waste or discards generated and if any emmisions to the air. Example : depletion of natural resource (fuel, water), generation of paper scrap, used battery, electronic wate, See all and list all. Impacts.
