Environmental issues and their impact on society

I'm getting rather involved with a group of folk at work who are discussing environmental measurements and their potential impacts on society.
I very quickly ran off a visual for clarity.
I would appreciate the Environmental professionals at the cove to either critique or rip my views apart. I need to be educated regarding this issue as, I have to admit, I'm lacking in this field altogether.
Be gentle.
See attached visual.

Mitigating factors?

I've made hundreds of public and semi-public presentations. I wish I could afford you to do my presentation graphics.

If I have any suggestion, it would be that it is important to follow up with a graphic (or graphics) that illustrate methods/processes for mitigating each of these factors which have negative impact on the environment (and Health/Safety.)

The follow-up to each strategy for mitigation would be a cost/benefit and time line analysis culminating in a list of action priorities (Who, what, when, where, why, and how.)

Good start, Wallace. I'll be interested in seeing how it develops.

Thanks for the comments Wes,
I generally use the "Interrogatives" when gaining or gleaning information of a chosen subject.
I'd love to go crazy (And I usually do) with graphical attachments when using the particular program for the visual yet, I'm dealing with many folk who are very resistant to my style of presentation, due to the fact that it makes them feel uneasy regarding their very fiercely protected positions at Ford.
Hey if you need any help with Visual presentations, just send the info and I'll attempt to compile a presentation for you. You can easily do the same by using your particular visual program.

I'm gonna download it and look at it on the road. BTW I'll be in Toronto this time (5PM Central) tomorrow and will be there until Saturday (Valhalla Inn or at the BSI offices).

You've gotta laugh at this one

I'm laughing as I post this one.
I printed off and showed a senior management rep at Ford, the attachment. He said to me, "C'mon guy, this is the real world we live in", This senior management rep is the ISO14001 management rep in charge of plant environmental issues.

Yes, and one of these days he'll find out about it :biglaugh:

Anyway, over to your map. How about adding:
  • Noice? Living next to a noicy industry can be awful.
  • Radiation?
  • Electronic emissions?

Thanks for your suggestions Claes,
Would you expand on your suggestions of:
Noise
Radiation and Electronic emissions

Absolutley. Some examles from our local point of view:

Noice: We have quite a lot of people and wildlife living around or close to our perimeter. Apart from the fact that the local authorities would come down on us like a block of flats if we were make too much noice (We have max levels to adhere to), we simply don't want to bother our neighbours.

Radiation: We make stainless steel, and a our greatest source of raw material is in fact scrap metal. We check all of it for radiation, and have on some occasions found radioactive materials in it. The end customers would not like it in their products. There is also (to a small extent) some production equipment that uses radioactive emissions. We need to dispose of them in the proper way when they wear out.

Electronic emissions: Not much of a concern for us, but as an example, few people would like to live right beneath a power line, and many are convinced that it is harmful. The same goes for production and office equipment. Another example is the growing fear that cellular phones and particularly their base stations could be harmful.
