I have a short question...

How do you evaluate the performance service provider?

I have problems with defining a procedure for evaluating the performance of service provider (e.g. consultants, calibration companys,...)???

You evaluate them the same way as you do for suppliers where you normally look at:
  • the product - in this case, the product is a service
  • the supporting services - such as responsiveness
  • others

In the case of calibration service providers where you don't normally have the capability to assess them, you may want to specify that they have relevant certifications such as ISO 17025. For the 'critical' ones you may want to look at their past experiences and who are the current clients that they are serving.



Check the relevant threads in the similar discussion threads box below the page - I think there is a sample procedure in one of them.

Consultants could be evaluated to ISO 10019 which is a guidance document for organizations using the services of a consultant.

I'm a little confused. Are you asking how to evaluate the performance of a service provider AFTER he has performed a service for your organization? If so, the task is merely to compare the points in the contract for hire with the finished process, PLUS add in some "subjective" features, such as:

  1. did the consultant work smoothly with your organization's personnel or was there friction?
  2. was the consultant responsive to requests for information or changes?
  3. were responses within a reasonable period of time or was the process of getting response long and difficult?

If you are asking how to evaluate a service provider BEFORE making a hiring decision, it's a much different process and deserves a separate thread.

Maybe the problem is that you cannot have a single procedure to evaluate each service provider because...it depends on the service provided!

A generic procedure would be something like:

1 - identify the need to service
2 - identify objective of the service
3 - identify requirements that the service must meet
4 - identify critical points to the service
5 - identify verification point
6 - identify means of measure
7 - identify targets to meet
8 - measure
9 - verify

Or something like that.

And then, for each service, you need to have the details define so you can perform.
