Noticed a few things were okayed that were non conforming. Most of other management were out last week so the operations manager took control of shop and screwed a few things up that i have fixed but wanted to know has anyone ever given a corrective action to someone higher up in same company?

You're confusing corrective action with nonconformance so which did you actually do, assign someone a corrective action to complete or issue a nonconformance for not meeting some requirement?

If you don't know which is which maybe another whatever is deserved.

In my past experience, whenever our group assigned a corrective action to a manager, we made sure that manager's manager was on board with the assignment. Usually, we did not assign a corrective action to a manager per se, but managers were assigned to deal with the problem as the "responsible manager", if it was in their organization. Yes, we helped develop corrective actions with the manager (sometimes, less desirably, "for" the manager) but overall that manager was responsible. There was a review board to review certain corrective action completions, and could theoretically hold the responsible manager "responsible" if the action and/or how it was implemented was insufficient.

It is a SYSTEM. This is not insubordination and the assignee of a corrective action REQUEST should be the individual best positioned to coordinate the root cause investigation. In many cases, the best functional position for this effort would be the process owner, but very few organizations assign process ownership and still rely on departmental structure and org charts.

The corrective action request should go to the process owner, who can then deal with the manager in question in getting it resolved.
