Re: ISO 14971 validity
The latest OJ (Official Journal - the legal document indicating the current harmonised standards) is 2012C 123 published 27th April 2012.
See:
http://ec.europa.eu/enterprise/policies/european-standards/harmonised-standards/medical-devices/
The pdf version linked to on this page is THE official version of the OJ.
The harmonised version of 14971 is EN ISO 14971:2009, which was first published (in the OJ, so becoming harmonised) on 7/7/2010 (column 3).
The version it replaced was EN ISO 14971:2007 (column 4).
That (2007) version ceased to be harmonised on 21/3/2010 (column 5).
Note in the title column (2) the reference to ISO 14971:2007. This is because the 2009 version is still based upon the 2007 ISO standard. The only difference between the ISO version and the EN ISO version is the addition of the "Annex Z" sections. These show how various parts of 14971 relate to the Essential Requirements of the European Medical Devices Directive(s) and are of no benefit outside Europe.
