Extending the Calibration Frequency of a Measurement Device

Gentleman,

Increasing the frequency would be going from 6 months to 3months, an increase in how many times it is done. Whereas decreasing the frequency is going from 6months to 12months, a decrease in the number of times in a period.

I need your toughs on the above statement.Any body agree to that?

:thanx:

Re: Calibration Frecuency Extension.

Depending on the type of equipment and its usage (criticality & sometimes contract requirements, though rarely the latter) as long as you have established reliability at the 6 month interval (history) you can increase.

Decreasing is never a problem, cost should be considered though.

Re: Calibration Frecuency Extension.

May be I was not clear enough, on this one.

But to me, when we increase the frequency of an instrument is to "prolong"
the interval of calibration and to decrese is to shortened the interval of cal-.

Is this correct?

Re: Calibration Frecuency Extension.

Agreed. Increasing the cycle or the term would mean calibrating less often. Increasing the frequency would be calibrating more often.

No, it is not. Increasing the frequency of calibration means shortening the interval between calibration cycles.

E.g., calibrating a gage every 3 months is twice as frequent as calibrating it every six months. The longer the interval between calibrations, the lower the frequency.

Sidney is right.

Fixed that for you.

The words that we usually use in this business (frequency & interval) have not the same meaning then.

Frequency, meaning rate of occurrence and interval meaning cycle (the amount of time between a specified events).

Correct?

The definitions are also correct.

More calibrations in a given time frame is an increase in frequency and a decrease in cycle.

There is an inverse relationship.
