External audit question - Number of on-site days to number of plant employees

Assuming you are not eligable for any man day reductions, and if the number of employees during the certification audit was also 82 your total number of surveillance audit days is 5.5 mandays for the 3 year certification period. If your facility has an audit every 6 months, like mine, that means each surveillance audit will be 1.5 days.

5.5 man days/5 surveillance audits = 1.1 man days rounded up to the nearest half man day is 1.5 man days.

Several assumptions need to be made to arrive at this number, so the best bet, as already mentioned, is to contact your CB.

Stijloor thank you. I just referred to my rules and noticed that I am still using the second edition (5/31/04). oops! Since I'm not sure if it is still relevant, can you tell me how many days it would be for a surveillance audit in a manufacturing facility of 82 people?

The audit days table didn't change from the 2nd edition to the 3rd.

Surveillance audit days are addressed in the explanatory text in section 5.2 before the table:

m) the total number of surveillance audit days in the first, second and third year (dependent on the agreed interval-see table 5.1) of any three year audit cycle shall be equal to the number of initial audit days in the calculation illustrated in table 5.2. There shall be at least one surveillance audit per year,

For example, if the surveillance is scheduled in nine-month intervals, there would be three surveillance audits between cert/recert audits. You would take the number of days for the initial certification audit and divide by three (round up to nearest half day).

To give you a more direct answer, it's two full days, but sometimes it's 1.75 days depending on your ISO Auditor(which varies greatly from person to person) and how true to ISO your company is. Have Fun!

As you will see from previous posts, it isn't dependent on your ISO auditor! The number of audit days is defined in the IATF document discussed, with adjustments for scope (design etc)

It will never be anything other than FULL days, HALF days or a combination of the 2.

The only way you could end up with quarter days is if the total auditor days are split between two or more auditors in the audit team.
