This may because of the shift to process-based auditing. Because the focus is no longer on the standard, but on processes, it might take a while for the registrars to get a handle on survellience schedules. My guess anyway.
This was my guess also. Plus - as we discussed in another thread recently, they quit doing the certificates without expiration dates. I'm not sure that registrars could do a matrix anymore due to the process-based auditing vs. auditing elements.

Anyone upgraded to 9k2k that did receive a matrix or something of the kind from their registrar?

I try to send out a schedule about one month ahead so they can make sure that the people that need to be there are available.

I know when our registrar comes in we usually spend the first half day developing the schedule for the audit.

This is not a problem at all.

One can e.g. follow the structure of the standard (that the way we do it). And then you have some areas you address mandatory and other are chosen alternatively for surveillance audits.

But this is no guarantee, that some areas are excluded from the scope.

Thanks again

Our company had our registration audit in April 2003 and our first surveillance audit was October 2003. I'm not sure why, but headquarters is set up to be audited twice per year and each branch gets audited once per year.

For the October 2003 audit we did receive a schedule about one month in advance which allowed me to make sure that the proper personnel would be on hand for the audit dates, for the most part.

Thanks for the advice about the internal audit schedule. That works well for me - I can create the 2004 schedule and not worry about what the external auditor will be checking. Thanks again.

...it is in fact interesting to read, that you have two surveillance audits a year.

Doesn't increase this the costs (external and internal) too?

We receive an audit plan about a month prior to the audit. Then at the end of the audit, the auditor sits down with me and we discuss the audit schedule for the next surveillance. I am offered some lattitude in scheduling, and it makes for good relations with the registrar that we are open and forthcoming. Of course, they also have their standard list of areas that are audited at each surveillance. So, basically if I pay attention I can pretty much tell you what areas will be audited six months in advance.

Also, we do a six month surveillance schedule also. Yes, it costs us a little more than the registrar's standard 9 month scheme, but I feel that it helps us more than the cost is detrimental because we are always on top of the game. I think nine months would give us too much leeway and we might put things off a little longer. JMHO

Have a great day:bigwave:

Two per year

Honestly, I have no idea about costs regarding our ISO certification. I am the new kid here - was hired Sept. 10 to be Mgt. Rep., Doc. Controller, and all-around ISO guru for the Oct. 6 Surveillance Audit. Made it through with flying colors despite my incredible lack of previous ISO experience.

All costs were negotiated before my arrival. I was not involved with the selection of consultants, registrars, etc. It is my perception that we get billed for two man days every 6 months - one day for the external auditor to audit HQ and the other day for him to visit one branch.

I didn't know it was uncommon to have surveillance audits every 6 months. I learn all kinds of things when I visit this forum!

We have surveillance audits every 6 months also with the "Reregistration audit" (not sure of the correct term  ) every 3 years. It's been that way since our first QS audit and carried over when we upgraded to TS. I guess I thought that was the requirement.
