Hey, what are you guys hearing from your registrar regarding "extra" audit time for the new standard revisions? I seem to be hearing doubletalk - that when we have our next surveillance audit they will audit us to the new revisions, but then ALSO require another 1/2 audit day to make compliance to the new revisions somehow "official"? huh?

No extra time needed

IMHO (and I think the registrar I work for is telling customers the same) the new requiremtns are not new enough to require any additional time. There are 18 months to complete the transition they should start now and complete in 18 months without costing you any more.

I just did an audit to the 2004 version and we didn't add any time to what had been previously agreed to.

My contact at NSF-ISR also stated that additional time was not necessary. With the content of the changes, I really can't see any justification for it. So... it sounds like there is a consensus that no addiitional time is necessary.

With that said....If YOU totally rewrote your EMS and made a lot of internal changes, then that might make a difference, but not just for the few changes in the standard.

No, I'm not anticipating major changes, but I'm "hearing" that our registrar is requiring an additional 4 hours to check the changes? Makes ZERO sense to me beyond the need for additional $$$$. What a scam... THIS is what makes me cynical about the entire Quality arena - seems like I see more and more people playing the money game, forget everything else... just another chance to make some more moolah.

DOn't let them screw you Steelwoman. Certification bodies should be able to assess conformity with the requirements of the revised standard during the regular surveillance cycle.

Just say no!!

I'm tryin! I'm in communication with them right now, trying to get them to "esplain" to me why they need an extra 4 hours, especially considering it doesn't appear anyone ELSE does? I'll let you know how it turns out.

I was told by our registrar, BSI, that we DO NOT need extra time to be upgraded to the new standard. That is from my auditor and from a BSI web seminar I attended. hope you are able to get a firm response from your auditor and that they decide extra time is not required!

Just as I stated in my post above. The fact is, we feel many organizations have already been doing what the new standard requires. We're just going to verify it.
