Just ask them to put you on an annual surveillance schedule.
I had a client several years ago that was closing their plant, so the let everything slide - internal audits, external audits, record keeping, etc. They kept extending the closure date because they kept getting more service orders. Then they decided they wanted to stay open for some new business. The registrar also goofed by not pulling their certification (QS at the time) when they had not been audited for 18 months.
I went in (consulting) to help them out and get things going again. We worked with the registrar and did an audit, which resulted in multiple majors as we expected. This at least gave them some time to fix the systems and get them running again. The follow up for the majors was OK, and they did not have to lose their certification.
