Hello all,
First time posting but long time reading ...
We are a small (10 people) manufacturing company in the UK producing 1-off/small volumes of parts for aero engine OEMs.
We are interested in FAIR software to speed up ballooning of drawings and creation of inspection sheets. We typically produce balloon drawings for all parts and conduct 100% inspection (even if not strictly first article).
I've shortlisted the following:
- Discus
- InspectionXpert
- Visual FAIR
Any information people can provide comparing these would be appreciated. I have already read some other relevant threads. I have just started the Discus trial and intend to trial the others too. So far they seem technically similar with the following differences (please correct any mistakes):
- Discus is in the region of half price of others, year on year including maintenance (but none are cost prohibitive given the apparent time saving they bring)
- InspectionXpert is a standalone programme. Discus and Visual FAIR have further add on modules i.e. possible future (unknown!) benefits. Not important to me unless the choice came to the toss of a coin where this would swing it towards Discus and Visual FAIR.
- InspectionXpert seems to have a useful drawing revision comparison function which automatically colour codes differences between drawings - this would be very valuable. I don't know if the others have this functionality.
- Discus and InspectionXpert output to Excel. I don't know if Visual FAIR does (i would expect it to).
- I'm not certain but think that Visual FAIR includes results input and compared with the balooned drawing whereas this is an add on module for Discus, but not possible with InspectionXpert.
- I get the impression from forums that Discus is more widely used than others - anyone agree/disagree? Why?
Any additional comments or corrections to the above are welcome!
Many thanks
