Fighting Corporate Memory Loss

Such a promising title...such a useless read. :(

My team's structure and dynamics have drastically changed over the past year and we've been struggling with corporate memory loss. The solution, according to the author, is to partner up with schools (okay, that works from a technical perspective) and stalk your employees' online networks (wtf?!?!). How about identifying core competencies? Followed with assessing current gaps in meeting those competencies and training, enabling and mentoring to meet those gaps. Me thinks the author missed the point. :soap:

Looks like someone who hasn't much clue at all how things really work in the real world masquerading as an "expert" (one of my biggest pet peeves). Sadly, too many in the business world will take this as gospel and run with it. After all, it must be OK ... it was published, right?

Agree. So anticlimatic...I was speed reading the text looking for the knowledge management buzzword. Did not see it.

Knowledge management is in the DIS of ISO 9001:2015. Let's see how it will be implemented & assessed, if it makes the cut.

I actually re-read the article a few times to see if I had missed the meat of the article. Turns out that all the author was serving up was filler. :(

I too, felt the time spent reading the article was not "value added"!:lol: Usually I read to be edified, but this just left me "Hanging."

There's a lot of internet to fill and people who have too much time and not enough knowledge attempting to fill it hoping for an accolade from someone.:nope:

I'm still debating on whether or not comment on the actual article that achieved one thing...acknowledging a problem many organizations currently face (especially those in a "baby boomer" culture).

If you do, remember that you will be advising an international consultancy firm, so make sure that your charging-out rates are clear before you give too much away!

Agreed that it is a problem - esp in the North Sea oil & gas sector across here. The answer is to define your processes clearly, so that it is easier for the new staff to know what to do...
