Filtering ECR/ECO by quality management? Managing Engineering Changes

Hi everybody

I have the need to start a procedure for managing the change to the engineering documents.

Taking some samples I found on the net, in most of them, first the request
is received by the quality Responsible, then passed to responsible
to perform the change, then continues the flow, ending with the change of the document, obviously the responsible fills out forms and save them.

This way the quality responsible, keeps track of the request received
also notifies to originator about the status. having I think more elements
to have the control

For those of you that have experience on this, Is good practice, to apply the filtering, or let the responsible to receive the request directly? dont´you think the request has to knock a lot of doors? making some kind of bureaucracy.?

Thanks

I´ll appreciate your responses.

Thanks

If you just look at samples you can find 'on the net' they're not necessarily outstanding samples and they are always based around the particular structure, roles and responsibilities that operate in that particular organisation. Plus, many of them are also based on the writer's understanding and experience with previous models of such procedures, which can also be pretty ordinary and often downright old-fashioned (eg, lots of filling in of forms, some of which can be replaced by good - repeat good - electronic control/permissions. Sometimes I think everyone just keeps copying the same old, same old models ad infinitum...

And yes, many of those I've seen have one great heap of controls and apparent bureaucracy. But what will work well in, say a 50-person shop wouldn't work well in a 500-person organisation.

I'd focus instead on what will work best for you and write your procedure around that.

Try it out, see if it's efficient, and see if it's reasonably well controlled. If it is, go with it. If it isn't, adjust it until it is.

(You know, PDSA... ;)
