The upcoming revision to the AS9100 Standard, AS9100 Revision D has been (apparently) balloted successfully in the 3 sectors of the IAQG (Americas, Europe and Asia Pacific) and should be released around the Fall 2016. In Europe, the document, in addition to being released as EN9100, is also translated in different languages.

For the latest IAQG presentation describing the changes to the AS9100 standard, see here.

The following announcement is available at the OASIS website:

9100:2016 Series Aerospace Quality Management System Transition Timeline

The International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG) has agreed to align transition to the forthcoming revised 9100:2016 series standards with the International Accreditation Forum's (IAF) Resolution 2013-15, which requires transition to the ISO9001:2015 quality management system (QMS) standard no later than 15 September 2018.

In order to meet the above timeline, the IAQG is revising the 9100 series of QMS standards (e.g., 9100, 9110, 9120) to incorporate the new ISO structure and revised requirements. The revised IAQG AQMS standards are targeted for publication in April 2016.

The IAQG Other Party Management Team (OPMT) has drafted an aggressive plan for transition and it will be communicated to all stakeholders via supplemental rule SR-003. The OPMT will release supplemental rule SR-003 to all stakeholders upon publication of the revised 9100:2016 series standards and after coordination with AB and CB community for feedback.

In the interim, we encourage all stakeholders to obtain the latest information on the development of the 9100 series standards at the 9100 revision preview website.

Re: AS9100 Rev. D - When and what?

If anyone comes across a good "AS9100 Rev. D In Plain English" or implementation book, lemme know. Looks like I am gonna be in the thick of a Rev. C to D transition next year. Oh yea. :bonk:

Hoping to take an implementation course given by our registrar, too.

I'll need all the help I can get....I got this dumped on me on top of my regular, full-time duties. Seems that is the "reward" for doing good work these days....you get more of it. But I digress......

Every time I get move work, I keep asking myself "would I trust anyone else to do the job?". In the end, it does not help, but at least I can feel superior for about 1/2 of 1/10 of a second.

Re: AS9100 Rev. D - When and what?

The latest I have from SAE is "this fall" and I have heard September or October for the revised AS9100.

Re: AS9100 Rev. D - When and what?

We were anticipating that AS9100D would have been released by now as we have already started changing over to ISO9001-2015. A publication delay until fall makes it more difficult to meet Sept 2018 timelines.

Re: AS9100 Rev. D - When and what?

Thanks, Carl, for the link to the article.

Mr. Kymal mentioned in the article
The aerospace standard AS9100 Revision D was originally planned to be released in April 2014
When I left the AAQQ/RMC in September 2013, there were no plans to release Rev. D of AS9100 that soon. He might be confused with the AS9101 Rev. D document.

Mr. Kymal also mentioned
Another big change found in AS9100 Rev. D is the expectations and accountability of top management. Even though responsibilities can be delegated, accountability is with top management.
In my understanding, ISO 9001 (since 1987) and AS9100 (since 2001) have always assigned ultimate responsibility of the system to top management. I do not agree this is anything new. If implementers, consultants and auditors did not understand that before, there is a risk they will still miss this, now.

Another comment states
Other important people who will need to be trained are top managers since AS9100 and ISO 14001 hold them accountable for their companies’ QMS and EMS and its performance.
While I agree that top management should be reminded of their responsibilities towards the systems they are responsible for, there are no external mandatory requirement these people have to undergo any specific training.

The article provides some dates related to the transition process to AS9100:2016, but we have to remember an official communication is still forthcoming in the Supplemental Rule # 3. According to the OASIS database website
The IAQG Other Party Management Team (OPMT) will release the supplemental rule SR-003 for transition to all stakeholders upon publication of the revised 9100:2016 standard.
