Fixed Point Temperature Cells Calibration Method

Hello everybody

I'm not sure if the word "calibration" is well used here. My doubt is about. how can I calibrate fixed point temeperature cells?

Is there a method to calibrate the cells? or shall they be undergone intercomparison only?

Googling I just find methods about using the cells to calibrate measuring instruments, so I call for help

Thanks in advance

Re: Fixed point cells calibration

Single point temp cells can be calibrated. Typically those are much higher level than lab user, so generally they may be NMI (National Measurement Institute) level. They should be reported by the NMI, in your case, ONARC, with uncertainty typically expressed in K instead of C. Note that in use, given the instruments, changes in lead resistance due to temperature variable may affect delivery of the reference to your other instruments.

Hope this helps.

How?

Not exactly. INIMET is the entity which perform calibrations. ONARC is the entity which certifies your accreditation to perform calibrations or any other test

Thank you very much Hershal for your quick answer. How (can they be calibrated)?
The cell temperatures are defined, and the method of construction and purity of the components will dictate how well a cell meets the definition. We should also include how well the cell apparatus makes the realization and then sustains its maintenance. They can be verified by a rigorous (and expensive) inter-comparison process with other labs and cells at higher echelon labs.
Fundamentally, when I insert a PRT into a cell, I am not determining the cell temperature, I am checking my probe. For example, when I insert a PRT into my triple point of water cell, I am establishing that day?s resistance at 0.01 ?C, which I then use to update the R01 coefficient in my thermometer readout.
