My vote's for Visio. It's the best diagramming software I have come across to draw flowcharts, ER, UML and other IT diagrams. There are many reasons for why an individual should opt for Visio. Some of them are:

- Diagrams can be created easily with the help of available templates
- Intuitive navigation with an updated user interface and shapes
- Dynamic, data-driven shapes
- Dynamic web sharing
- Simplify large and complex diagrams

Just a thought, but it may help that Visio is a Microsoft product (if importing/exporting from/to other microsoft software packages) ??

I have always used Visio, myself.

There are a lot of good programs out there and considering the state of software it's not at all like years ago when it was hard to even put a picture in a document (remember WordStar?).

These days when I think of integrating aspects of different software the significant aspect is along the lines of if you revise the original chart (as an example) will it be updated in the document it was copied to.

Seriously ...
Recently I have started to use UML sequence diagrams instead of flowcharts.
Well, it is software independent, but like it a lot and thought to share it with you.
Solved many visualization problem I had and using it, allowed to improve the originator SOP.
