I've read through the above document on Standard Practice for Measurement of Positional Accuracy of Computer Assisted Surgical Systems. In the context of a surgical navigation system, this deals with the accuracy of the tool tracking system. The imaging and registration are not taken into account.
Section 4.3 of the document states
So I'm wondering now about the "subsequent standards". Will there be one that, for example, addresses overall system accuracy (Total Targeting Error) when using MR or CT imaging? Any hints appreciated -- including whether there is a more appropriate place to ask this question.
Thanks,
-Steve
Section 4.3 of the document states
This practice provides protocols (Section 8) for measuring
accuracy of the tracking system (optical, magnetic, mechanical,
and so forth) made under repeatable conditions.
Subsequent standards will address the system along with any
necessary imaging modality (fluoroscopy, computed tomography,
magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasound, and so forth) for
image based systems, and the software for registering the
images or the imageless data to the patient.
