Football! (OK, we will even let soccer come in) - Fall 2006

Re: Football! (OK, we will even let soccer come in)

Lets see here who has Michigan played thats in the top 25 this year??? Maybe 2 teams. Unless you count theirselves!!!

Now Ohio State and Michigan may be the best teams but you have to prove that by strength of schedule and I do not know exactly who they have played so list it out for me (top 25 teams) and you could change my mind.
You really have to look at where teams were (over-rated) at the time of the game AND where they are now.
Michigan:
Notre Dame, #12 in Week 4 and 5 now, 42-21
Wisconsin, Un-Ranked in Week 5 and 8, 27-13
Penn State, UR in Week 8 and 25, 17-10
Ohio State, 1 and 1, 42-39 loss
Average Rank when played is 12 and 12.6 now, LOSSES DO NOT COUNT

Ohio State:
Texas, #2 in week 3 and 13 now, 27-7
Penn State, 24 in week 5 and 25, 28-6
Iowa, 13 in week 6 and UR, 38-17
Michigan, 2 and 2, 42-39
Average Rank when played 10.5 and 13 now, NO losses

Arkansas:
USC, #6 in week 2 and 3 now, got spanked 50-14
Alabama, UR in week 5 and 33, barely won 24-23 in OT
Auburn, 2 in week and 12, 27-10
Tennessee, 13 in week 12 and 20, 31-14
Average Rank when played 7.5 and 16 now. LOSSES do not count!

First of all, your Hoggies got beat by #6 coming out of the chute on Week 2 so they've only BEATEN 2 ranked teams, whoopee! OSU had a convincing win over #2 the same day. Second, they'll have to win over #10 LSU and #4 Florida before they make up for the LOSS.

Yeah, but early-season and pre-season rankings are horse hooey, and any system using them is, similarly, made of horse hooey.

Ohio State beat the team that was ranked #2 and the END of the season! That's why you've got to look at where the teams you beat are ranked NOW! For example, look at the current rankings of the two (ranked) teams that Arkansas has defeated. It is also why I would give Arkansas pretty high marks if they beat LSU and Florida (top ten at the end).

Let's look at it VICTORIES against teams that are ranked TODAY another way:
Michigan has beaten ND (1 loss), Wisconsin (1 loss), and Penn State (3 loss), while taking a loss from an unbeaten OSU.
Arkansas has beaten Auburn (2 loss), Tennessee (3 loss), while taking a loss from USC (1 loss to an UNRANKED Oregon State)
OSU has beaten Michigan (1 loss), Texas (2 loss) and Penn State (3 loss) while remaining unbeaten.

Penn State got losses from Michigan, OSU and Wisconsin (all top ten).
Auburn's other loss came from Georgia (#16).
Tennessee took a losses from Florida and LSU (top ten).
Texas' other loss came from an UNRANKED Kansas State.

I'd rank Michigan over Ohio State on schedule except for the fact that MICHIGAN LOST! Say it with me: "Ohio State is UNDEFEATED!!!

The world will have to continue holding it's breath a bit longer.
Farsley Celtic 0 Milton Keynes Dons 0
I'll let you know how the replay goes.
As I continue to plough my lonely furrow I am pleased to report:
Milton Keynes Dons 2 Farsley Celtic 0:applause:
A crushing victory for the Dons who now face the mighty Blackpool in the second round of the FA cup.

The world is a more cheerful place this morning.

Re: Football! (OK, we will even let soccer come in)

Tomorrow, Note Dame should beat USC.....of course it actually COULD be a fight since over the last 5-6 weeks USC has been forced to play 4-quarter football which is a new concept for them.....

Both Arkansas and Florida have to get past their games this weekend, and if either lose they may be out of the championship run because of two losses.....

Regardless of what happens, I would love to see the SEC, Big 10, Big 12, ACC, and Big East all pull out of the BCS and demand a playoff like II-A and III-A have, using the bowls as the venues.....

Either that, or at least get programmers for the BCS who did not all graduate from Pac-10 schools.....I reach that conclusion because USC is still ranked at #3 when they should be down around 9 or 10.....and they have been overranked for the last few years.....hence because of the obvious bias I figure the programmers are all USC grads.....

Just my thoughts.....

Perfect scenario......

Corso is at USC/Notre Dame and picks USC, thus assuring their loss.....

Just as expected: USC moved to # 2 spot on the BCS poll. It is now getting interesting.
Yeah, that win over ND pretty much assured that. Beating UCLA will put the last nail in that coffin! USC & Florida are the only teams left that have not posted up my predicted second loss. I watched LSU beat Arkansas and (as predicted) Texas A&M show ut how to play football. I did not realize that Arkansas really doesn't have a passing game. They should have stuck to running the ball on their last possession of the game. Florida ought to be able to handle them in the SEC championship. I'll be perfectly happy to watch the BIG 10 OSU and Michigan show up those wooosies from the PAC-10 (USC) and SEC (Florida) in the bowl games; we don't need a rematch to show what we already know: OSU #1, Michigan, #2.

I'm not sure about those rankings either. Look at last year. Why was USC ranked #1, and Texas #2? More importantly, why is the Heisman trophy winner picked before the game, instead of after the game? Reggie Bush is awesome, but come on, that performance by Vince Young?

The thread says football (heck, you even let in soccer), so... can I talk about our Dallas Cowboys? They're looking pretty good. It sure is a lot of fun watching Romo play football.

If we do progress into the playoffs, our kicker Vanderjack (sp?) may give us problems. I think he has jinxed himself; I sure wished he would get over it.

It is my contention that Drew Bledsoe was left in that long as quarterback because that is what the owner Boss Hogg Jerry Jones wanted. I base that on a quote I heard from him after the Giants game. For those not intimate with the Cowboys, the owner Jerry Jones is intensely disliked in the area due to how he treated the beloved Tom Laundry when Jerry Jones bought the team. Plus the fact that he can't sit in the plush boxes like all the other owners.

I can't imagine anyone watching Romo in practices would not have at least given him some playing time earlier.
