Re: Football! (OK, we will even let soccer come in)
Icy’s BCS Top 5 (Sort-of) Breakdown
Of course, The Ohio State University Buckeyes (Go Bucks!) are #1. Just ask CTexas (#2 Coaches Poll the day they were beaten/#5 BCS today), Penn State (24/36) and Iowa (13/35). They’ll stay there, too!
Michigan (Go Blue!) deservedly holds the #2 spot right now. They’ll stay there until they lose to the Buckeyes in Ohio Stadium (The Horseshoe). The Big 10 is tough! Michigan wins over Wisconsin, Penn State and Iowa really mean something (oh, yeah, and Notre Dame, too).
Louisville (Go Cards!) is really tough this year and will secure a firm hold on the #3 spot when they win over Rutgers. Way to go sticking it to the Hurricanes who started out ranked #12 but are now just plan rank. Convincing win over the Mountaineers from West Virginia.
It is a travesty that Auburn beat Florida and is ranked behind them. The BCS computer rankings are BS IMO. It’s the “Brent Mossburger Team-From-FL-Must-Be-Ranked” factor. Florida isn’t that good and hasn’t played that tough a schedule, as will be shown once they lose a couple more to South Carolina and Florida State. Auburn also ought to be ranked #4 ahead of ut (that’s how they spell longhorns in College Station), considering the trouncing that Ohio State (Go Bucks!) handed the ‘Horns and their slim escape with a win from Nebraska and Texas Tech. (Alright, Randy, the Tigers did lose to the Razorbacks.)
ut is going to lose their hold on that #5 spot when my Aggies from Texas A&M (gig ‘em Aggies) show them the meaning of real “Texas” football.
I was glad to see USC get it on the chin from Oregon State. Good old brent m. and the rest of the knuckheads on sportscenter couldn’t shut up about how USC was getting ripped off in the polls and should be #1. Because they suck, Brent. Losing to Oregon, Cal, Notre Dame and possibly even UCLA will prove it.
The Buckeyes beat that team up north and secure their #1 spot in the BCS Championship Game against an (also undefeated) Louisville Cardinals team. Bucks Win!
Unfortunately, with only Georgia and Alabama left on their schedule Auburn won’t be able to build enough juice to overcome their current status, so the Tigers will end up playing Michigan for the #3 spot. This is a toss up. It will probably be the best game in the BCS bowls and the only time I’ll cheer for Wolverines (Go Big 10!)
Florida, Texas, and USC will all whine for 9 months about how they deserved a shot even though they had one (or more) losses this season. The undefeated Boise State Broncos will call them all woosies and declare themselves #5.
