Re: Football!

I guess I should give my favorites too.....

College first tier favorites:

FLORIDA! Chomp! Chomp! (hey, I am a 2nd gen native of FL, so I'm allowed)

ALABAMA! Roll Tide! (OK, this year not likely, but if they beat Auburn still a winning season)

College second tier favorites:

FLORIDA STATE! Chop! Chop!

AUBURN! War Eagle!

Anyone who beats the wimpy Pac-10, ESPECIALLY USC!

NFL:

Miami, Chicago, Denver, anyone who beats the Raiders and 49ers.

European NFL:

London, even though the German teams usually win.

Arena:

Avengers (OK, LA does have ONE source for good football!)

And others as I get to watch them.

Looks like the Tide has the edge in the overall series 10-7 that includes this years double overtime game.

Icy’s BCS Top 5 (Sort-of) Breakdown

Of course, The Ohio State University Buckeyes (Go Bucks!) are #1. Just ask CTexas (#2 Coaches Poll the day they were beaten/#5 BCS today), Penn State (24/36) and Iowa (13/35). They’ll stay there, too!

Michigan (Go Blue!) deservedly holds the #2 spot right now. They’ll stay there until they lose to the Buckeyes in Ohio Stadium (The Horseshoe). The Big 10 is tough! Michigan wins over Wisconsin, Penn State and Iowa really mean something (oh, yeah, and Notre Dame, too).

Louisville (Go Cards!) is really tough this year and will secure a firm hold on the #3 spot when they win over Rutgers. Way to go sticking it to the Hurricanes who started out ranked #12 but are now just plan rank. Convincing win over the Mountaineers from West Virginia.

It is a travesty that Auburn beat Florida and is ranked behind them. The BCS computer rankings are BS IMO. It’s the “Brent Mossburger Team-From-FL-Must-Be-Ranked” factor. Florida isn’t that good and hasn’t played that tough a schedule, as will be shown once they lose a couple more to South Carolina and Florida State. Auburn also ought to be ranked #4 ahead of ut (that’s how they spell longhorns in College Station), considering the trouncing that Ohio State (Go Bucks!) handed the ‘Horns and their slim escape with a win from Nebraska and Texas Tech. (Alright, Randy, the Tigers did lose to the Razorbacks.)

ut is going to lose their hold on that #5 spot when my Aggies from Texas A&M (gig ‘em Aggies) show them the meaning of real “Texas” football.

I was glad to see USC get it on the chin from Oregon State. Good old brent m. and the rest of the knuckheads on sportscenter couldn’t shut up about how USC was getting ripped off in the polls and should be #1. Because they suck, Brent. Losing to Oregon, Cal, Notre Dame and possibly even UCLA will prove it.

The Buckeyes beat that team up north and secure their #1 spot in the BCS Championship Game against an (also undefeated) Louisville Cardinals team. Bucks Win!

Unfortunately, with only Georgia and Alabama left on their schedule Auburn won’t be able to build enough juice to overcome their current status, so the Tigers will end up playing Michigan for the #3 spot. This is a toss up. It will probably be the best game in the BCS bowls and the only time I’ll cheer for Wolverines (Go Big 10!)

Florida, Texas, and USC will all whine for 9 months about how they deserved a shot even though they had one (or more) losses this season. The undefeated Boise State Broncos will call them all woosies and declare themselves #5.

Yes Arkansas did beat Auburn! Not only beat them but out played them the entire ballgame but every one still wants to talk about how good Auburn is but no one says anything about the Hogs. If we get thru these next 3 ballgames Arkansas deserves to be above Auburn. Another thing if we were to play USC again this year I believe Arkansas would win. That would make a good bowl game. Arkansas Vs. USC. No matter what the other conferences say if you go 11-1 in the SEC you deserve to be in the top 5 in the country.

Re: Football! (OK, we will even let soccer come in)

Seeing as there is a very low representation of Football fans (by that I mean the proper game, "Soccer" as you like to call it, thought step into the UK and you won't here "soccer"), I thought I would post!

I have posted here before in defence of what truly is the beautiful game!

I have two passions Music and Football (soccer). For me there is no better sport (despite Jim Wynn's terrible article during the world cup!). It invokes real passion and commitment (I play every Sunday morning!) and following my team, the mighty Reds of Liverpool has been a roller-coaster ride that I don't regret a minute of.

The atmosphere at a big game is amazing, we have all manor of songs to sing and believe me 40,000 people singing makes a big noise and at times sends shivers down you spine, it's so good!

I have tried watching the American excuse for a sport, but got sooooo board! Too much stopping and starting etc..... standing around waiting for stuff to happen and the rules are a bit too long winded.

That's about it, thanks for letting FOOTBALL in to this thread and I will finish by saying.....Come on You RED's!

PS: It's not SOCCER it's football!

Geez, the least you could do is provide a link. Besides, my mother thought it was a great piece. And until football soccer can match the fine physical specimens of the NFL, we have nothing to talk about.

Manix my son.....you have obviously NEVER seen Arena football!

I don't disagree with your loyalty and passion, but think about it.....our football is boring to you.....and running around for 25 mnutes after a score while the announcer shouts "GOAL!" (shouted once for the entire 25 minutes) is equally boring for us.....

Hence the great opportunity for an exchange of viewpoints.....

Any Aussies out there? Keep us up on AUSTRAIAN RULES! That is also great football! For those unfamiliar, imagine American Football (NFL) without pads, and with Tabasco mixed in.....
