Re: Football! (OK, we will even let soccer come in)

Seeing as there is a very low representation of Football fans (by that I mean the proper game, "Soccer" as you like to call it, thought step into the UK and you won't here "soccer"), I thought I would post!

following my team, the mighty Reds of Liverpool has been a roller-coaster ride that I don't regret a minute of.

That's about it, thanks for letting FOOTBALL in to this thread and I will finish by saying.....Come on You RED's!

PS: It's not SOCCER it's football!
EPL is one of the most watch matches in Asia. We, Asian, are typically fanatical when it comes to soccer...Imagine the waves that this little ball have created in the recent World Cup...
In my company alone, we have supporters of liverpool, Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal etc and it is also one of the favorite topics during breaks. We even have a soccer session every Thursday.

I wonders what happens to liverpool for this season :jawdrop: They sucks big time. :mg:

Finally, ARSENAL ARSENAL ARSENAL THE KING OF ALL TEAMS.

Of course we can all root for The Lifesavers - my soccer team :agree1:

We got our name because for years we came in second and second place got a roll of lifesavers - remember the commercial where the mom uses them to cheer up her kid after a base ball game?

Gotta run! 9:30 game!

BTW - for those who are 'challenged", rugby is a hooligans' game, played by gentlemen and soccer is a gentlemens' game, played by hooligans.......:lmao:

Re: Football! (OK, we will even let soccer come in)

Manix my son.....you have obviously NEVER seen Arena football!

I don't disagree with your loyalty and passion, but think about it.....our football is boring to you.....and running around for 25 mnutes after a score while the announcer shouts "GOAL!" (shouted once for the entire 25 minutes) is equally boring for us.....

Hence the great opportunity for an exchange of viewpoints.....

Any Aussies out there? Keep us up on AUSTRAIAN RULES! That is also great football! For those unfamiliar, imagine American Football (NFL) without pads, and with Tabasco mixed in.....

Hershal
Last time I checked (which was Sunday when my team was knocked out of the Hampshire cup on penalties), a football match lasted 90 mins. Not sure where the 25 minutes you speak of is coming from?! Plus in England, Players, commentators or spectators don't shout GOAL! That's on the European mainland in countries like Spain and Italy. We usually just shout YEAHHHHHH or GET IN THERE!

I agree with your comments on Aussie Rules, now that is a proper mans game!

Liverpool won last Night and we are improving, though I agree our form this year has not been that good! Though we did manage to beat West Ham, something Aresenal didn't manage on Sunday!

Geez, the least you could do is provide a link. Besides, my mother thought it was a great piece. And until football soccer can match the fine physical specimens of the NFL, we have nothing to talk about.
:biglaugh:
We have better specimens than that. John Hartson for example

Re: Football! (OK, we will even let soccer come in)

OK, I give that 25 minutes is a bit much.....just seems that way.....in the States, seems like every time we see soccer on TV (usually a small piece when at all).....and it is the long shout, and seems like the player that scores has to run around the field three times.....

Yes, a bit stereotypical perhaps.....just the typical exposure here.....except for kids soccer of course....

Now on to BCS.....hopefully this is the last season for it.....it at first seemed like an improvement, but several times major conferences have been left out even when they had a legitimate claim to the title.....

Hopefully NCAA will finally look at a playoff like AA and AAA have.....

And this year, just because.....I hope to see Louisville in the BCS.....pains me though to say that, since I am a Gator.....

Re: Football! (OK, we will even let soccer come in)

You are right, Hershal. The BCS is all about generating revenue. I think they could generate a lot more with a very simple system:

Require everyone to play all the teams in their conference. That would mean 10 or 11 regular season games for most teams. Games like Ohio State vs. Northern Illinois or Texas vs. Rice would be strictly forbidden. No more pushovers during regular season.

Have a playoff with seeded teams much like basketball (sorry, single elimination only). Conference ties and other disputes would be decided in the first round since there are only 11 conferences and we need to fill a 16 team starting bracket. Teams like Rutgers & Louisville from the Big East or the MAC champion would get a shot that they rarely see now! Tough, monster conference teams wouldn't knock each other out of the running since every conference would be represented.

Worst case, 15 game season for the champion, but we get 15 exciting games during post-season play instead of the rash of mostly boring bowl games on New Years Day. Two weeks between each round. First round on Thanksgiving Weekend Saturday. Second and third rounds on Saturdays in December at current BCS bowl sites (rotating of course) with the Big Game on New Years Day at a rotating site).

Who could possibly have any interest in this game when, on the same day, Milton Keynes Dons will be playing Farsley Celtic in the first round of the FA cup.
