Re: Football! (OK, we will even let soccer come in)

Did you see the interview with Bo? The story:

Ohio State was winning the game 49-12 with about two minutes left. Ohio State scores another touchdown and decides to go for two points with the game in hand.

After the game, a reporter ask Woody why he went for two. His answer, because I could not go for three.

I guess this says a little about the rivalry.

Re: Football! (OK, we will even let soccer come in)

Do you suppose that Woody and Bo watched the game together?
There was a joke going around this weekend.
Bo arrives in the afterlife on Friday afternoon and meets up with his old friend Woody. They agree to meet the next day to watch The Game. After watching his team march down the field and score on their first possession, Bo turns to Woody and says, "It's just great to be watching this game here in Heaven with you, Woody!" Woody just sits in stony silence and watches the game with just the hint of a grin. After watching Ohio State march down the field and score on their first possession, Woody turns to Bo and says, "Who told you that this was Heaven?":lmao:

Not only did they watch it together but Woody punched a passing angel that momentarily blocked their view!
I am so proud of my UC Bearcats for their upset of Rutgers!
My Bengals have stumbled badly so it was at least some good news for me!
I think sports builds character and has a greater impact on people's memories both good and bad than many people realize.
Years ago I was in a county assessor's office in Cincinnati researching a plot plan. There were a couple of older gents arguing near me about a football game. As they mentioned names and plays in their argument it began to sound really familiar to me.
Then it dawned on me that they were discussing my Dad's final high school game. Purcell vs Elder High School in 1945. It was the war years and there wasn't much in the way of pro sports so high school and college ruled. My Dad's offensive line outsized the Chicago Bears that year.
I interrupted and told them 99 the center for Purcell was my Dad.
They got so excited and they each wrote a note to him.It made his day when I gave them to him.
I remember attending the "ice bowl" Cincinnati Bengals vs the San Diego Chargers in the playoffs. It was -55 degrees at the kickoff and I was freezing in a black snow mobile suit with orange stripes sewn on it!
The Bengals line trotted out in thier summer jerseys looking like it was a spring day, Max Montoya and the big guys!
It was a rout! However we couldn't deliver in the Super Bowl against the 49ers (twice) sigh!
See I get started on this subject and can't shut up!
Hoo Dey!

OK, Auburn has a winning season (they beat Alabama) and now Alabama has a losing season.....for those unfamiliar, that game defines whether the season is a winning or losing season, the rest of the games (with a few exceptions) are just games.....the exceptions of course for Alabama (can't speak for Auburn here) are Tenneesse and LSU.....

The SEC title game is now set, Florida and Arkansas in Atlanta.....even if Arkansas loses to LSU (it is the SEC so hard to call), they still go.....I think they will beat LSU and I think Florida will beat Florida State (I will be chomping, my son will be chopping).....

If Florida wins, they should face Ohio State, and potentially USC could face Arkansas.....assuming of course USC survives Notre Dame and UCLA.....

If Arkansas wins they should face Oho State and Notre Dame should face Florida.....

USC should be beaten like a stray dog this weekend when they face Notre Dame.....

But then the BCS is so screwed up that it could have any match-up.....it is time to scrap the BCS and go to a play-off system using the bowls.....

Just my thoughts.....

No doubt about it the two best teams in College football right now are Michigan and Ohio State and there is no reason that they should not have a re-match. USC, Notre Dame, Florida etc... not even close this year. Either Michigan or Ohio St would sundly beat any of those teams.

I see my Tarheels hired Butch Davis things may be looking up for thier football program now.

The Grey Cup is done and the Canadian Football League's season has come to an end. Montreal versus BC - I must admit that I was torn between who to root for. Rumour has it that the two teams had some opposite "words of wisdom" from their coaches on nocturnal activities for the night before the big game. BC won the Cup and if the rumours are true, I see a possible new trend starting with athletes.

However, that being said, seeing as how I didn't know who to cheer for I opted to watch the final NASCAR Nextel Cup race of the season (sob!). Montoya, in his first Nextel Cup race, must have been rather upset that his car went BOOM! Looks like it's a tad more difficult to get out of flaming stockcar than a flaming F1. :notme:

Re: Football! (OK, we will even let soccer come in)

For all the talk about the calculations involved with determining the BCS rankings, there remains a significant amount of subjectivity to them. From what I have read and heard here in Columbus is that the opponent for Ohio State will be determined after the remaining key games are played. Michigan at #2 is being considered a holding place until the real #2 is decided.

Although won/lost records and strength of schedule play a part in the calculations, the real factor will be the subjective polls that are used in the rankings. Depending on whether USC, Florida or Arkansas win out, the various subjective polls will determine who gets into the National Championship game. Unless Ohio State wins the game, the next year will be filled with the editorials on the failure of the BCS rankings and the need for a play off system. My alma mater, the University of Cincinnati, did their part by beating Rutgers. At least we don't have to hear that they should have played Ohio State if they were still undefeated.

Re: Football! (OK, we will even let soccer come in)

Lets see here who has Michigan played thats in the top 25 this year??? Maybe 2 teams. Unless you count theirselves!!! :lmao:

If Arkansas wins out lets see who they played and what their rankings were when Arkansas played them. HMMM Auburn #2 , Tenn. #11
USC #2, Alabama #21, LSU #9, Florida #3, (Think these rankings are correct past and future) and undefeated in the toughest conference hands down. Now this is hoping that Arkansas beats LSU and Florida :cfingers:.

That is half of their season against ranked teams and the only game they lost is the first one against USC before they had the quarterback situation fixed and players out hurt.

Now Ohio State and Michigan may be the best teams but you have to prove that by strength of schedule and I do not know exactly who they have played so list it out for me (top 25 teams) and you could change my mind.

The BCS is about advertising cash and audience size. Therefore, I think (see picture) before OSU and UM rematch. USC (3) is the only one that controls its own destiny. If they beat Notre Dame (5), the computers will go with the polls and rank them #2. If Notre Dame wins, they still have that 47-21 spanking from Michigan that may prevent them from being ranked #2. So, a Notre Dame win probably means Florida (4) and Arkansas (6) get a shot. Winner goes to Arizona to play Ohio State. Then it is a debate about which remaining 1-loss team gets to play Michigan.

It really doesn't matter at this point who beats whom. The National Championship was played last weekend and Ohio State beat the #2 team in the nation for the second time this season. Whatever teams play Ohio State and Michigan are going to get screwed into the turf. Big 10 RULES!
