Hello,
Ford is asking us for a list of all of our suppliers which are delivering products to us.
Is this a must. In my opinion it is our resposibility to get and approve the right suppliers to us. Of course they must have or working towards ISO 9001.
I guess I don't see any problem with supplying them with a list of your suppliers for thier products. I would have a problem if they tried to manage my supplers.

Not sure why Ford would request that. Are you having difficulty with a lot of part rejects, which would cause them to want to micro-manage? Is there a particular unique aspect to your product.

One reason they might want to know about sub-tier supplier is that they might have some (unhappy) history with some suppliers, and want to keep tier-ones from repeating the mistakes of others. Also, sometimes sub-tier suppliers have possession of OEM-owned tooling, and they want to know where it is in case some sort of poop hits the fan.
sub-tiers are approved by you, and you only. Though big guys like GM requires you to get the materials from GM approved sources. I am not sure Ford has such a thing.
They could find out who the sub-tiers are, information is readily available, e.g., in the PPAP. But they need to do their own homework, Why ask me then?

Not necessarily true. I'd be very surprised if Ford didn't maintain contractual veto power. They're paying for the material, so why shouldn't they be able to know where it's coming from?

Because in big companies sometimes the right hand has no idea what the left is doing, or why. It's possible that whomever is asking for the information has no idea that it's already there. And even if they do know, it's easier for them to just ask you for a list instead of having to look for information they already have.
