I don't doubt that... but I was actually interested in knowing what your customer said is the reason. Or did they not give a reason with the request?

I'm courious as well. We have some interesting thoughts and possible reasons/justification, but what did the customer really give as a reason?

Hi Morgan,

the only reason for update their overview which we do not believe because the products we are going to deliver are for one model which is not selling so well.

Isn't this just a wonderful industry (automotive) to work in?
* Absolutely no trust.
* How can I make money at your expense?
* Yesterday doesn't count - you screwed up today.
* Do this for me - at no cost to me.
etc., etc., etc. .......

Why do I stick around?:bonk:

Added: I do apologise to all. Lately my posts seem to be a bit heavy with "negativism" (is that a word?). It's been a very pressure packed 2006 for me and I'll try to back off a bit. I think it's time for a vacation.

No need for apology. I felt the same way years ago - I left the automotive industry and never looked back. I now work at a shop that makes machine details for many different market segments. We do have automotive customers but we make parts for their machines - not car parts.

I won't say I'll never go back to automotive - but I sure don't plan to.

Ford Customer Specific Requirements

:read: Refer to the specific customer requirements. Although it does not explain why, it does state a requirment for a list of supplies.
In the Ford Specific manual in section 4.27.2 Subcontractor Development, it states (among other things) " Upon request, the organization shall make available to Ford a list of its subcontractors. The subcontractor list shall be updated at least twice annually"
Hope this helps.
Angie

Thanks, Angie. Perhaps there is no ulterior motive but it's hard to say considering the state of the automotive industry right now.

I would certainly be leary. I would meet their requirement as stated in the post but if asked to provide. I would blacken out the names and claim it to be proprietary. So the list from afar to prove you have it and prove you update it twice per year.

To provide a simple list of Supplier is not a good tool to know the cost.

Hi,

As I stated in the Title, in my modest opinnion to supply a single list is not could be consider as a tool to reduce cost or have the structure of cost,

If I had the mission of this task, I woud audit the Supplier i.e OEE and their financial report, Ïn Report Card administration that Fors and Visteon have, as I was Visteon Engineer, the financial structure of your company is also rated.

I woud suggest that this concern is related Quality instead of Cost Reduction.

One interesting finding could be who fron Ford requested that info, in these Companies the departmeants are silled.

Therefore if you received that request from Quality is a Quality Concern.

If you received that request from Finance Deparment or Purchasing, Comodity Buyers. Bad Thing

If you received that concern via PPAP analyst or SQA withing a PPAP process would be a new request. :applause:

I hope it helps you.

Regards.

Remarks. The Automotive industries is cruel, I left my third company withing 3 years, when I did teach the persons there, they told me do not come more.

I would like to change Sector due to this sector is dying in Spain moving to East Europe.

If you would like to have a link in Europe, think on me for the future. :truce:

Regards,

I too left automotive and was glad of it after approx 30 with the B3.
Got back into it due to conditions beyond my control and location with a tier 2. Now a tier 1 by default:(

Hello,

maybe a cause for the request was just, that someone in FORD read their one CSR and thought "OK, then I will request that list".

But I already heard (not applicable for pur product), that the OEM ask for supplier list, to contact the supplier them self and ask for prices or buy the item no longer via the tier 1.

We dismiss the handout of a supplier list, with two agruments, black box, and that our suppliers not only deliver for FORD parts.

Beside Ford never ask for a list, to fulfill the CSR in scope of the TS, we also mentioned this statement in our Q1 Site Assessment and have so informed Ford.
