(Free) Mass Calibration Software - Calibration of Weights to UKAS Standards?

Hello all,

Does anyone know of any free software for calibration of weights to UKAS standards?

I know it's a long shot, but thought I'd ask.

I'm currently developing my own using excel (with absolutely no knowledge of Excel!), but I'm going to be grey and old before I'm half way through it and I feel like I'm re-inventing the wheel (after it's unmpteenth reinvention)

Alternatively, if some kind soul wouldn't mind looking at what I've got so far and lending a (gratis) hand or comments in it's development I'd be very grateful. Unfortunately, my boss has banned me from doing anything public so I won't be able to post it on here - I'd have to send it direct to any individual.

There are plenty of helpful people around here, but it would help them to help you if you were to describe what it is that you're looking for or trying to do. What do you want the software (or spreadsheet) to do?

Like Jim asked, what do you need the software for? Are you assessing uncertainties or what?

Do you already have software that connects to the balance?

Hello both - sooo sorry for my very late response.

The software only needs to be able to report on weighings to UKAS standards (OIML R111). We use Borda's substitution method for Working class through to E2.

The spreadsheet needs uncertainty budgets for:

Calibration of standard weight *
Drift of standard weight *
Digital rounding error of comparator
Linearity of comparator
Buoyancy correction (we just use 2 parts per million)
Repeatability of weighings

We do have comparators linked into the computers which allows for the readings to be inputted directly into the current spreadsheet we use.

To be honest, I'm halfway there to getting my own done - my main problems are interpolation. For example, OIML has a list of maximum permissible errors for various weights (1g, 2g, 5g, 10g 20 g, 50 g etc etc). The spreadsheet I have calculates these absolutely fine. But with a weight that is not on this list, where we have to use one or more standards, my results are everywhere (the uncetainties marked * above are the ones I'm having difficulty with).

In the absence of any pre-existing free software, are there formulas for calculating what the MPE should be for a weight?
