Full-motion commercials, when you go to click off a page, are coming to a website near you!

"Beginning 20 January 2004, more than a dozen Web sites, including MSN, ESPN, Lycos and iVillage, will run full-motion video commercials from Pepsi, AT&T, Honda, Vonage and Warner Brothers, in a six-week test that some analysts and online executives say could herald the start of a new era of Internet advertising." https://www.unicast.com - Unicast, the company responsible, says the ads will play regardless of pop-up blocking. "The only format that loads completely before it is allowed to play, the Full Screen Superstitial is guaranteed to play perfectly for every consumer, every time."

If that doesn't cheer you up, maybe this will...

"AP reports that Bell Labs will soon announce cell phone software to reveal the owner's location to interested parties. To alleviate privacy concerns they say the software will 'let cell users be as picky as they choose about disclosing their whereabouts' but the article goes on to mention 'the ability for restaurants and other businesses to send a solicitation by text message to a cell phone when its owner wanders within range of those merchants.' Oh, wonderful, cellular popups..."

Which effectively means that they prohibit the use of modems to access their sites... Good job . It also means that I and many others will not access the sites in question... ever...

Added later: Hang on, I found this info:

Consumer controlled – always contains “Close Commercial” language, active video and corner ”X” close controls, and site headers.

Oh, alright then... At least we'll be able to kill the application, but I'll still avoid sites sporting that stuff.

And here I was thinking of making everyone watch 30 seconds of my 'home movies' (Super 8mm movies converted to streaming .mov files) from the 1960's and 70's once a day... You're not interested, eh? ;)

Well - maybe the ones from your streaking days in college might be instructive.

Some years back I showed them to my daughter and she exclaimed: "Dad! That's you! What was YOUR problem? And no earring?"

I had somwhat the same response from my daughter. She said that Dad used to be cute, now he looks mean?
