I'm afraid I disagree, without historic data on a gage how do you know it hasn't changed. Unless proper precautions are taken all steel will deteriorate. Our procedures call for gage blocks to be calibrated every two years. The procedures have been violated. You still can't get around the lean principle I buy only what I need and use it right away. Why waste money, a 81 piece steel square worksman's grade is $400 USD. Not a huge sum but a Mahr ceramic set new is around $9K USD. If I was to let $9K USD sit anywhere it would be in a bank gathering interest not dust on the cover.
