I have seen one semi-conductor company use barcode for identification & traceability of their measuring devices… once you scanned it, it’ll give you everything you need about that measuring devices e.g. calibration due date, result of the latest 3 calibrations performed, the person who performed the calibration, repair history (if there is), who repair it, even the supplier and the date when it was purchased is included in the date, etc…
Although it is a controlled environment since it is a semi-conductor production and they have practically no problem with sticker being washed-away (the sticker btw, is also some type of heavy-duty sticker – the one that cannot easily tear-off unless you intentionally tear it off)… and as their preventive, not only barcode sticker is attached to their measuring devices but the equipment unique identification number is also engraved into the measuring devices (wherever possible) where you can manually enter into their database and will give you the same information… quite systematic management there huh?
