Gage R&R Acceptance Limits - General features on a component

:confused:I know it varies depending on the criticality of the feature that the gage will be used to evaluate, but for purposes of this dicussion, let's assume we are measuring general features on a component. What would be the maximum Gage R&R percentage you would accept? Beyond this point, the measurement system would be rejected until improvments can be put in place. I am working with general mechanical gages such as micrometers, calipers, etc.

The AIAG Measurement Systems Analysis manual used to state (1st-3rd editions):

0-10% Acceptable
10-30% may be acceptable based upon the importance of apploication...
Over 30% error -measurement system needs improvement...

The other stipulations were that no point should exceed the calculated Range Upper Control limit and the number of distinct categories (ndc) should be an integer greater than 4.

The 4th edition restates the above in more detail on page 78.
