We have a length gage that we have made in-house. I'm not sure how it's made, but it has something to do with tight tolerance air cylinders that give constant positional feedback to a PLC... We've done a gage R&R and it comes out really good (R&R% = .059).. but I'm wondering how I'm going to calibrate it... From what I know, we're supposed to measure at various lengths that the gage is capable from. The problem is, it is capable of measuring any length we put in it.. Currently we have "setup bars" machined to close tolerance.. The gage is zeroed from the bars.. The PLC is programmed with the rules of spc and the gage is constantly monitored by the PLC.. if any of the rules are broken, the line is automatically shut down and the PLC displays the broken rule..
Is it as simple as using a couple "calibrated" gage bars?
