Really needed some guidance on classifying certain failure modes at my company. We are in the early stages of design and development and have drafted an extensive DFMEA (we're in good shape from the design side). While brainstorming with the engineers a question that I didn't think much of came up; when we receive parts from a supplier where we visually inspect the part before the part goes into an assembly, if the part does not pass the visual inspection from the design drawing (SolidWorks) is this considered a process failure from the supplier? What about at our company? Would this double down as a design failure since it does not meet the drawing spec of the design we have on file that is a released part in our system? The engineers on my team are thinking beyond the scope, but typically I am used to capturing this as a process failure and it would be captured in the Supplier's PFMEA.
