An icon of the baby boomer generation has passed away. I'm sure George Carlins comedy routines figure prominently in many of our memories of coming of age.

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Acerbic standup comedian and satirist George Carlin, whose staunch defense of free speech in his most famous routine "Seven Words You Can Never Say On Television" led to a key Supreme Court ruling on obscenity, has died.
Carlin, who had a history of heart trouble, went into St. John's Health Center in Santa Monica on Sunday afternoon complaining of chest pain and died later that evening, said his publicist, Jeff Abraham. He had performed as recently as last weekend at the Orleans Casino and Hotel in Las Vegas. He was 71.

I guess most recently I enjoyed seeing him in Scary Movie 3. It came on TV and I watched it for about the third time. His playing "The Architect"- a lonely ole guy pinned up in a lighthouse, was just comic genius.

In one of his routines George posed the question that "If you are on the phone on hold and you die, does the light at the other end go out?" Well George, for many of us that light went out.:(

We need folks who rattle the cages that institutions often put people in, and he sure did it well.

When I was growing up in the 70's George was the funniest man alive! His bits still make me laugh today! He will be truely missed!
