Thanks and Virtual Golf??

Thanks for all the input and references and other funny stuff. Everyone has been real helpful. Thanks again!! :bigwave:

We could have a Virtual Golf Tournament amongst the Covers. :biglaugh: Wouldn't that be fun? Don't quite know how it would work but it could be fun.

Any golfers out there who can help me determine my handicap?
I am female and I play from the men's (white) tee markers. I can smack that little white dimpled ball pretty good - good enough to play from those tees...but not like a manly smack!

My question is how do I determine my handicap from those tees? Should I factor in the women's slope rating? Or should I use the men's ratings?
Each set of tees should have a course rating and a slope for both men and women.

To calculate your handicap index:

Take the best 10 of your last 20 differentials, average them and multiply by 0.96.

To get your differential: (take your score - course rating for the tee you played)X113/course rating.

I used to be in the 90's. Which color tees? Red, White, Blue, Gold? I was in a foursome last summer where three of us played from the White and the fourth guy from the gold and his drive was ALWAYS closer to the hole! The only time we talked to him was as we walked off each green - he'd go one way and we'd go another. The big laugh was that he came in third in the foursome. I edged him by one stroke, all due to putting, certainly not woods or long irons. The number 1 guy beat me by 8 strokes - his putter was as hot as mine and his irons were MUCH better.
The Tees are set-up to reflect your handicap. Red is the Women's Tee, White usually means 20 handicap or more, the Blues are used for the 18 or better handicap. The Gold Tees are used for the scratch golfer. In my opinion and what I was told by my Pro.

The temptation is too much! I am going to start tracking my game!
Thanks for the weblink. I WILL break 100...it is just a matter of time. (I actaully did it a few times about 10 years ago.) I've only played 3 times in the last 8 months and I am going to try to play once a month. This weekend, I am squeezing in 2 rounds. I play again tomorrow-Memorial Day. :biglaugh: All this golf and walking helps me get my 10,000 min steps/day in for the Virtual Walk...in the other Cove forum - Our Team is called The Elsmar Walk-Covers! Yesterday's round of golf got me 12,000+ steps.
If you play once a month your game should be in the 90ish (90-97 would be my projection). Play each week and you should break that century mark.

I bet if I played from the Women's tees, my score would be in the 90's all the time...maybe better???
Very possible. Try it this weekend and see if it really makes the difference.

I have always looked at the tee boxes and found that it only makes a difference in the initial drive. Once in a great while I will try the Gold Tees and at times they are more difficult. Like trying to place your tee shot in-between approx width of 20 yards or less of trees. With the only option of going through, not the way I like to, go over them.

Gold tees are not always the 'scratch' golfer. It depends on the course. At ours golds are the 'senior' T's.

We have gold, red, white and blue. Also known as senior, women, men and championship or scratch.

Other clubs are starting to leave out the 'men/women' designation and go with a handicap rating.

But as far as handicap goes -it's all in the slope rating. Our course just got re-rated due to the addition of about 15 'beautiful' traps - mostly in landing zones for the T shot and a couple that circle the green making sure your approach shot is perfect or in a trap. My HC index went down to a 26.1, but after re-rating, my course HC went from a 29 to a 30.

I could play other local courses and end up with a 25 HC (and maybe even break 100) based on their slope.

Hit 'em straight - and it's not how you drive, it's how you arrive (for those of us with a long game but no short game!)

Upon reflection, I realize Laura is accurate in that there does not seem to be a consistent use of colors for Tee boxes. I once played a course that also had "junior tees" that were short enough so most adults could play the entire course from the junior tees with a six iron, choking up for the short shots and twisting the head to make a flat surface for putting.

My dad's favorite line:
"Keep it in the short grass!"

Of course we all know what happens if you don't hit it past the 'ladies' tees, right guys?

Tonights funny story - gal Tee'd off and 'toed it' to the right into a big branchy maple tree. We all heard it hit the tree a couple times, so 'knew' where it was. Looked awhile, and couldn't find it. I turned around to re-orient to the T box and tree and saw something white IN THE TREE! Sure enough, it was her ball, stuck in the tree about 10 feet up. What are the chances a) that it would get stuck there and b) that I would happen to see it. So with a helpful water ball retriever we got the ball and she declared her unplayable lie. I've see them stuck in pine trees before, but never a maple.
