95% Correct Al....This particular one is actually from a 2.75in FFAR (folding fin aerial rocket).

These things were fired by the thousands and will nail people to trees (and to other people too). You Arty guys used them for perimeter defense with great success (thank you BTW).

I'll see if I can come up with another item this evening.

So - the "fletching" (like feathers on a dart) is actually aerodynamic and orients the piece point first?

I can see it is made in a normal wire nail machine. In retrospect, given your background, we might have expected something less than benign!:D
