Some of you may have noticed that I haven't been doing a lot around here latley?

I have the flu... I've been more or less knocked out for a week, beginning to recover ever so slightly now. I just thought I'd warn you. If you hear anyone coughing and wheezing:Run in the opposite direction. Last years version was tame, but this one has obviously been extensively upgraded to Cast Iron Bastard level or possibly a wee bit worse.

Relax and don't have a care in the world right now, The big wheel keeps on turning.
Why don't you take large glass full of single malt Scottish whisky, put some hot water and honey in there and get it right down your throat. You'll feel the burn and, I can guarantee, the whisky, water and honey shall kill those nasty germs running around your system.
Of course, I can't guaruntee how your liver will react, but give it a try. I do at least once a week.

I heard the "shot" missed the strain this year. I never get the shot, despite recommendations, and so far have avoided the flu the last several years. (Knock on wood - don't want to jinx myself.)

I know alot of people that get the shot every year. And the medical folks say its better than getting the flu. What's everyone's experience?

Like you, I never take the shot. I was considering it this year. (60) Never get the bug. Knock on wood, too. It just may be my liquid intake. Watched the Doctor on Fox and he said the shot can make you sick, but it's worth it. What to do. What to do.

After getting a nasty bout about 15 years ago I get the shot about every year. Once or twice I've gotten laid-low by what was probably the flu, but always well before the shots came out, never in the 5-6 months after the shot. I look at the odds -- if you're not allergic to eggs your chance of the shot causing problems beyond a slightly sore shoulder for a day or two is very small, and it cannot give you the flu as the shot contains killed virus. As always, ask your doc, but there are few good reasons not to get the shot. As much as I'd like to believe it, there are no studies I've ever seen to show whiskey or other adult libations prevent or knock-out the flu, but they do have other truly medicinal properties if taken in moderation.
