Handling of Characteristic

#1
Hello All,

Can be listed into the DFMEA Specification List Special Characteristic(parameter) without marking CC/SC/... which need to be listed later in Control Plan?

This parameters(characteristic) is written in customer contract(staitment of work) or can belong to design Poka Yoke as well and design team want to have it in CP later.

Thnaks for sharing your experiences

I assume you are asking about "Special Characteristics"? or not since you crossed it out??

Anyways, in your DFMEA, PFMEA, and Control Plan you must mark if it is a Special Characteristic with a relevant symbol/character. Other characteristics, it depends. If your organization only has "Standard Characteristics" and "Special Characteristics", then there is no need to mark anything else. If you have multiple types, then it is probably good practice.

The statement of work is irrelevant. Because if you are required by your customer or by your certification to have FMEAs and Control plans, then onle of the requirements is to indicate what is a SC, etc.

Thansk Malasuerte,
Yes, I'm asking how to right handle charactersitic in FMEA process, not as special characterstic, therefore is crossed out.

Question is if I can define some charactersitics(example: SEV 10; 'Backset EuroNCAP -> 25mm) in list without marking as special/standard characteristic. We are using CC/SC/IC symbols. Our design team want ensure this important parameter will be later in CP.

Thanks
A.

We know that special characteristics or dimensions, which are very important to product function, are communicated by your customer on the product drawing. There may also be characteristics which are important to you in your manufacturing process, for operator safety or perhaps you use a dimension to locate or ensure the part fits into a fixture, for example. These secondary characteristics might also be listed in a DFMEA/PFMEA and may be listed on a Control Plan, even when they are not marked SC/CC on the customer drawing.

Yes..of course. A Special Characteristic is defined by you or the customer. @John Predmore is spot on. You should definitely identify additional important characteristics throughout your process (from design to serial production). That is a great thing to do!! :)
