We are a third party logistics company that has a potential client who would like for us to unpack their bulk product and repackage them. This is a fuel additive, so I am unsure as to what requirements are needed. Unfortunately, I have not had much success with contacting anyone for assistance. Any direction or help would be appreciated!

Good day @gpalow
To what standard(s), if any, are you certified to? (i.e. ISO 9001, IATF 16949, etc...)

Since you posted this in the IATF forum, I will give council per that standard.

The answer is: Whatever is required by your customer.

Because of the nature of the product ("fuel additive"), that item specifically, does not fall within the eligibility of IATF 16949. Reference IATF 16949 clause 1.1

Hope this helps.

Be well.

Agreed with both above...

For pleasing the customer: Whatever they want....though this may, unfortunately come by lack of complaint more than agreement.
For staying legal (assuming USA): Hazcom2012 (29CFR 1910:1200)
For shipping: DOT and possibly IATA

I do the same thing (repack chemicals for industry)...the above are all I do...and my automotive "approval" is silence and reordering, I couldn't get anyone to call/email back either.

FWIW: consider DOT/IATA carefully (specifically the orange books, CFR49 for transportation, sections 100-199)...package sizes can make the difference between hazmat shipments and non-regulated shipments...pack it a little smaller per container and maybe save all the hazmat shipping fees...depending on chemical.
